1. Melt your wax (we recommend IGI's 1343) and add fragrance (about 1 oz per lb of wax) stir well. You can also add dye to match the darker colored bears so that it blends better with the bear. You wax will need to be around 170-200 Degrees F.
2. After the wax is melted and fragrance is add make sure again that your wax is not too hot. Having the wax too hot could make your bear shrink or become misshapen.
3. Using a pair of tongs, dip and roll the bear in the wax for about 2 min or until well saturated.
4. Using the tongs, pull the animal out of the wax and while wearing thick rubber gloves, squeeze out some of the excess wax. you can even put your bear on a screen over your wax pot so that it drips back into you pot to allow the wax to be used for the next bear.
5. Immediately use a large tooth wire comb (or fork if you do not have one) to comb or fluff the hair. Longer hair requires more fluffing. This must be done before the wax hardens.
6. Let the bear cool until it is cool to the touch then put the bear on a cooking sheet to finish the process. You can pose them at this point. To completely dry, let stand for 2 hours.
7. Once completely cooled you can package them in a cellophane bag and tie with a decorative ribbon.
Additional Comments
1. one pound of wax will do 1 large animal or two smaller animals.
2. Jointed bears allow of easier posing
3. The fragrance will decrease over time if the animal is kept at room temperature. To refresh the scent, heat with a blow dryer for about a minute. We recommend doing this about once a month.
4. Some fragrances will discolor white animals
5. Watch what you put your bear on. Never put them directly on wood. A dish, glass or metal works best and will keep the surface from being stained by oils in the wax
6. Keep out of reach of children. These are no longer toys.
7. Wax dipped animals do not need wicks because they are not meant to burn. Please do not attempt to light your bear on fire. They are more of an air freshener than a candle.
8. Get creative with bows, decorations, packaging, accessories and poses. Have Fun!
